Equality Coaching member Kirk Alliance was recently profiled by Oregon Live:Walker said that in coming out, he has felt more pushback from gay coaches, who sometimes compartmentalize their lives and don't want to risk their jobs, than he has from straight people.
"The older coaches are sometimes really resistant: 'Why do you need to do this? We're fine. We're doing fine,'" he said.
Hesitant at first to be known as a "gay coach" instead of just a coach, Walker said he now sees the important of speaking out.
"If I can effect change," he said, "I can't shy away from that."
